Dr. Jean Forman’s Inspiration
As a little girl, I was awed the moment our family doctor came in the room. This was a man who could make me feel better. Just by seeing him I was on the road to recovery. In his office, I would ogle his glass cabinets filled with silvery objects. The use of these objects was left to my imagination. The seed was planted and I was hooked on the idea of becoming a doctor. However, life had already made other plans for me. I was married and had three children before the age of twenty-one. A career in medicine took a back seat and became only a dream. It was a dream that was unattainable in the near future. I loved my children so much that nine years after having my third child, I had my fourth. I was the Campfire Girl leader, Den mother, Team mom, and transporter for many years.
The dream never faded away. At age 40, I returned to college. I just wanted to get a degree and do something interesting with the second stage of my life. After earning an AA degree in business at a two-year college, my direction was still unclear. But I had fallen in love with Biology after acing the course to satisfy my science requirement.
One day, my husband asked me, "Why don't you become a doctor?" At that moment the dream that was put on hold so long ago became a reality.
Now, here I am, Dr. Jean Forman. The silvery objects have become plastic now and I’m the one walking into the room to make people feel better! After 10 years as a clinical physician and professor at USC School of Medicine, I started a practice with my youngest son, Dr. Todd Forman. We came to Newport Beach to be close to my other son, Dr. Scott Forman who is a successful orthopedic surgeon.
We have followed in the steps of my family doctor by practicing old-fashioned family medicine with up-to-date comprehensive medical care.
Never forget your dreams!
